Living by Numbers

Is your life run by numbers?
  • How old are you?
  • How much to you earn?
  • What size clothes do you wear?
  • What do you weigh?
The list goes on...

Personally I can't remember the last time I stepped on scales and that is a conscious choice I have made. To me scales tell me just another number.

I know when I have gained weight - I feel sluggish, clothes don't fit properly and the tummy rolls tell me that I need to look at what I'm eating and my level of excercise in order to get back on track.

A girlfriend was telling me of her obsession with stepping on the scales each morning.  I could think of nothing worse than starting my day with a number dictating my mood.

I don't really care about the number and of course I can't compare my number with your number.

Studies of various body types have proven that thin people can be nutritionally poor and unfit, while people considered to be heavy may have greater muscle mass and be far healthier.
Women especially may be likely to fluctuate in their weight dependant on their menstral cycle. Why add the worry of a number to a time when you may be over sensitive anyway?

So creating a body image based on numbers means you are at the mercy of the scales.

Do you feel comfortable, confident, healthy? Then stop focusing on numbers.
If you feel a like a change is needed - look carefully at your diet vs. how active you are. Making sensible changes are likely to result in you feeling better in your own skin.

Unless you are a boxer or a jockey - do you really need the scales?
